Some people argue that Africa and tech entrepreneurship is a bad combination. We disagree! In Mali we have been training skilled young people in the use of remote sensing and other subjects, with an emphasis on potential business. The practical ideas of our participants have been really unbelievable. Three groups have won the challenge and have taken home the price to continue working on their ideas. This has been organized with DoniLab, Incubateur CREATEAM, Orange Sparks, NSO – Netherlands Space Office, Netherlands Enterprise Agency and others. The hackathon project that took place in Mali Bamako from the 29th of May to the 6th of June 2024. The proposed solutions from youths made use of geo-ICT and have concrete market opportunities. By doing so, participating youths are exposed to entrepreneurship and through this develop a more entrepreneurial mindset, which could be applied to other aspects of their lives.
