GARBAL is a call center platform operating in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. GARBAL provides farmers and livestock herders with up-to-date information on pasture, market prices and weather forecasts. Farmers regularly call into the platform to plan the preparation of their fields and herders will use the service to scout locations to bring their animals during the dry season. It is the only service of its kind in West Africa and fills a critical information gap for millions of people.
The Geo-Agri team is responsible for building and maintaining the software platform used by call center agents to provide information to callers. The platform is open source and free to use by anyone.
The platform sources data from OpenWeatherMap, Copernicus data and field data collected by civil society groups and the Ministries of Livestock in all three countries.
